The second lesson (math)

It’s a second lesson on my teaching practice. It was on Sunday, November 16, 2014. In Al Refa’a School.  I taught girls from grade 4C Math lesson for 45 minutes again. The lesson was about Doubling/Halving Interactive. And the outcome is:  Students will be able to use represent partitioning to double or halve numbers. The students was 25 student in class but in this day there were 1 girl absent. With presence My MST (Miss Louise) and my MCT (Mr. Serge) to evaluate me when I teach.

I started the lesson at 8:45. First I let them to come to the floor and distributed small white boards. Then, I started by physical examples like: I take one of students and ask them I want make double for this student what I can do? After that, I used smart board and power point to give them examples and explain more. And I let them to work together as a pair in white board. Next, I explained the activities and let them to back to their groups and work. I divided class to four groups by levels and they work on four different work sheets with different learning style and for different levels. And they can use physical things to count like: cups, balls and crystals.  Finally, students back to the floor I put for them game about the lesson double and halve.

I think this lesson is very important for students because it’s help them to learn multiply and divide.

I did many positive things in the class like, I engaged students in the first of lesson by physical examples. I used game in the end of lesson to make sure that students were understood the lesson. Finally, I used different strategy to transition with use different specific words. Like, when I start new activity I said for them : Ready, Ready, Ready and they must to say Yes, Yes , Yes. before I explain the lesson I remind them of five highs and asked them to say it: eyes on teacher, ears open, mouth close, hands on knees, feet on floor.

On the other hand, I faced some problems on my lesson. First problem, I taught two things in one lesson halving and doubling together. So, I confuse how I can explain it for students and I find very difficult for them and for me. Second problem, I make only work sheets in activity because I don’t have long time to prepare. I think students need more physical activity especially weak students.

In the next lesson, I will try to obviate these mistakes. I think that two things in one lesson it’s too much so I must to teach step by step. Also, I will try to make different actives. Physical things, pictures, diagrams and worksheets.
